Today’s world can be likened to what happened in the 17^th and 18^th centuries. It was known as the Age of Enlightenment or the Age of Reason. Its origin is in humanism, a system of thought that gives priority to humans rather than divine or spiritual things. Humanists seek only rational ways of solving problems.

 

Do we live in a perfect world? No! Every day, around the world, there are wicked acts committed. There is a lot of evidence that all human beings are imperfect or sinful. The Interpreter’s Bible says: “Modern man, enlightened, educated, and even to good will, is seeing himself unequal to the tasks (of today). He is caught up in nets of evil from which there is no escape. Will and desire are themselves infected… Salvation must come from outside himself.” Only God can save us from this body of death. 

 

The breastplate that a Roman soldier wore was armor which covered the full torso (the trunk of the human body) and protected his vital organs. The Apostle Paul says, “put on the breastplate of righteousness [doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord] (Ephesians 6:14, NASB). Keep it firmly in place. God gives us our spiritual breastplate of righteousness. If we obey His commands, we are protected from the forces of evil.
