As I walked down the stairs from my second-floor office, I saw a young lady waiting in the church lobby. She acted like she was lost. She told me the pastor had scheduled an appointment with her. The pastor wasn't in his office so I asked her if I could be of help. When she started to speak, she broke down crying. Tears flowed down her face seemingly endless.

She told me her husband wanted a divorce. I listened intently to her for several minutes. Then I told her there was Somebody who loved her. Somebody who would always love her. That Somebody is Jesus. I told her Jesus could give her a joy and peace in her soul that lasts for eternity. She asked Jesus to come into her life. Suddenly, her face turned from a look of sadness to a face filled with joy. Then something happened that was totally unexpected!

It was on a partly cloudy day in Chicago, Illinois. After the commercial jet lifted off the tarmac
at O'Hare Airport, something happened that made an indelible impression on me. I was amazed how quickly the houses below disappeared. Then I thought of the water in a teapot. When the water came to a boil, I could see the vapor coming out of the spout. The vapor could be seen for a fleeting moment and then it was gone. The experience made me think about the brevity of life. The writer of James tells us life on this earth is brief. My older brother is an example of how brief life can be. He went to bed one night. He didn't know he would die early the next morning. He was only 48 years old.

When God created me, he had a plan and purpose for my life. For many years I decided what I wanted to do with my life. However, I realized if I wanted to live the abundant life that He wants to give me, I must seek to fulfill His plan and purpose.

The Bible says God has a plan and purpose for each of us. What do you think? Are you seeking to fulfill God's plan and purpose for your life?

There have been many twists and turns in my life. My book, "The Memoirs of One Man's Journey Through Time," includes some of those stories.

He habido muchos giros y vueltas en my vida. Mi libro, "The Memoirs of One Man's Journey Through Time," incluye algunas de esas historias.

One of my boyhood friends fought in the Vietnamese War. His company was surrounded by the Viet Cong. The enemy managed to cut off all the supply routes. Eventually, the American troops ran out of food and they ran out of ammunition. The night before my friend was killed, he wrote a letter to his parents. He told them that he and his comrades knew they would die the next day. He told his parents he loved them. He thanked them for raising him up in a Christian home. He told his parents not to worry about him because he knew he had a home prepared for him in heaven. Early the next day, the enemy killed every man in his company. The kind of faith my friend had in God is an example of what God can do if we trust Him. The Psalmist says "The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 NIV

My Grandpa Levi "Lee" Wilkinson was in a similar situation when he was a soldier in World War 1. He fought in the battle of the Argonne Forest. For the rest of his story read the book "The Memoirs of One Man's Journey Through Time" by C. Paul Wooderson. Website: cpaulwooderson.com

Have you ever been lost in the dark? I remember the time I tried to take a short cut because I was in a hurry to get to the hospital. The patient I was going to visit was in critical condition, and I wanted to make sure I got to see her in time.

What happened? My "short cut" became a "long cut." I was lost in the darkness. I spent so much time trying to discern how to get to the hospital that I barely made it in time. I needed help to show me the way.

There is another kind of darkness. It is spiritual in nature. Jesus is the only Guiding Light that can guide us out of spiritual darkness. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." John 8:12 NIV

Juan 8:12 NVI

                                                    Are you another Moses?
"And God said, I will be with you." Exodus 3:12 NIV

God commanded Moses to go to Egypt to deliver His people from Egyptian captivity. Four times Moses gave an excuse as to why he couldn't do it. For each excuse, God had an answer.

The First Baptist Church of Harvester (in the St. Charles, Missouri area), received a phone call and asked for a minister to get to Barnes Hospital as soon as possible A member of the family had a horrific accident and the doctor told them their loved one was close to death. A church member who had seen the victim drove me to Barnes Hospital. The more he told me about the condition of the young man, the more nervous I became. By the time we got to the hospital my heart felt like it could explode at any time. My arms trembled. My legs felt weak. My knees shook. I didn't want to see that young man. However, the Spirit of the Lord made me feel like I had to minister to that young man. When I walked through the door into the burn unit something happened that changed me. What do you think happened? For the complete story read the book "The Memoirs of One Man's Journey Through Time" Website: cpaulwooderson.com
