THE MORAL TEST OF LOVE - Part One

Many years ago, there was a popular song whose lyrics were, "all the world needs now is love, sweet love..." Doesn't the message sound good? However, what kind of love does the world really need? In today's world, the reality is the word "love" has many different meanings.

When I had premarital counseling sessions, I always asked the couple what percentage of give and take will be required for them to have a successful marriage? Almost every time they said 50-50. Typically, I responded, "if you make that a practice in your marriage, your marriage is in danger of failing." It doesn't make sense mathematically, but each of you need to work toward giving all of yourself to your mate.

A couple who had been married then divorced were considering getting remarried. They shared with me why their first marriage didn't last. It soon became obvious to me what the problem was. They loved themselves more than they loved each other.
