BLOG # 80    IS CHANGE A POSSIBLITY? #3   11/6/2020

Part Two

Jeremiah 18: 5-10

Clay is created from the dust of the earth. The clay mentioned in the book of Jeremiah 18 was marred. The Hebrew word for “marred” suggest the corruption of humanity. For example, “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence” (Genesis 6:11, NIV).

The clay in the earth has a vital role. It can help plants to grow. Clay absorbs ammonia. Without clay, the land cannot retain its fertility from year to year. Clay is used in making ceramics and bricks.

What lessons can we learn from the clay? In the book of Jeremiah, the clay represented the people of Israel. The people of Israel trusted too much upon being God’s chosen people. They had a wrong attitude. The people of Israel thought they could do whatever they wanted to do. They were over-confident that God would not cast them aside.

THE LORD IS THE POTTER. WE ARE THE CLAY.

Today, the clay represents Christians everywhere. Christians need to remember that without God we are only a lump of clay. If we are not a fit vessel to represent Him the Potter can make us into a vessel that pleases Him.
