“… take THE HELMET OF
SALVATION…” (Ephesians 6:17, NASB)
The helmet was an important part of a Roman soldier’s
armor. In combat the head was always a major target. The helmet protected his
head.
Paul’s message in Ephesians 6:17 was written for
Christians. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we are in a spiritual battle.
Satan is always at work trying to destroy the assurance we have of our
salvation.
Paul said to the church in Corinth, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ” (II Corinthians 11:3, NASB). Paul feared the Corinthians like Eve would become victims of satanic lies and their minds would become corrupted.
THE HELMET OF SALVATION means the mind which is
controlled by God. It symbolizes the power of God. If we wear THE HELMET OF
SALVATION we will not be easily led astray.
